Ladakh Trip Day-1

We (5 friends) started from Bangalore on June 13 2019 night from Bangalore to Delhi. My plan was to reach Leh on Friday morning at 7:10am. My 4 friends took the road on Friday morning to drive 400kms to Leh.

I reached Leh as per plan. My host (Tenzin) picked me up at the airport. The drive from airport to homestay was 10 minutes only. I stayed at The Golden Apricot on Fort Road.

I was served upma for breakfast. The owner of the hotel told me to rest for the day to acclimatize with the height and weather.

After resting for 3-4 hours, I was kicking to roam around. I hired a two wheeler and had Google maps as my assistant.

Rode to Thiksey Monastery that is 30 minutes away from Leh, about 15 kms. This ride was the most memorable one for me as I hadn't ridden a 2-wheeler for more than 15 years. With Google maps, I had all the freedom to roam around like a local person. I reached Thiksey on Leh Manali highway.

End of the day, I was satisfied to have reached Leh and spend my Day-1 in an eventful manner. My friends who started from Manali on road were stuck in Keylong due to heavy traffic and road blockage. From my side, I had one worry - My DSLR camera started to malfunction in two ways - 1) There were couple of dark spots because of dirt hitting the sensor. 2) The lens stopped working (could be because of cold weather). Its auto focus mode wasn't working. I didn't try too much for that day.

Tenzin arranged for my shared-visited to Tso Moriri for my Day-2. Day-3 was planned as return from Tso Moriri back to Leh.

For night, I had maggi for dinner and hit bed at 9:30pm.

There are not many restaurants in Bangalore with a chance to enjoy Classical Indian music and food together. Kamat Bugle Rock in Basavanagudi is one place for that. On Friday night, one of our music friends was performing and it was a good change for my wife and I to visit that place for dinner. Visiting Badami-Aihole-Pattadakal

 We visited Badami-Aihole-Pattadakal in Nov 2021. This is the preferred time of the year to visit as the weather is suitable between October and January. Rest of the year, this region will be very hot and will be tiring to walk in hot sun. Badami is roughly 450 Kms from Bangalore. Options to reach there is via train (night train) or by road. If we start early morning at 5am, we could reach Badami by 2pm depending on traffic and weather conditions. Breakfast option is near Tumkur. After Tumkur, there are very few food options. Returning back to India

This blog will go for a long discussion within me. If this is Chapter 1, there will be many more chapters to come till I make a decision. Very often, I get this question - "Should I go back?" If so, when? Sometimes I feel, I should. Other times, I don't see the need. This change of answers inside me is just swinging like a pendulum. I have seen people being in this phase and then finally deciding to go back. The end result is so much to take and give that it is a total change of life for someone who has lived outside India for nearly 5 years. Hasn't India changed in the past 5 years? Can I adjust to the latest society and trends? How is it to live in a busy city and work in an office 20 miles away from home. How is the work environment in India?
