Visitors of all kinds

Our house was always filled with evening visitors. The type of visitor ranged from 'pakkadh-mane' auntie (neighbour auntie) for a cup of tea, to, mom's patient(10 years ago) from some far away town visiting us. To describe a few instances of such visitors, here is what I recollect.

I have to mention one thing here - visitors were real obstacles for me and my brother when my mom was making wonderful evening snacks for us. Just when she started making onion bhajji, or bread bonda, or masala dosa, or anything delicious, door bell rang :(. There was one family in one of the places we lived - they were family of five with 3 kids coming on a Kinetic Honda. Their arrival was matched with our mom's masala dosa session. When delicious dosa is being prepared inside, outsiders will surely smell sitting in the living room. With no options, they had to be invited into dining hall to make them taste mom's dosa. After dosa, a dose of tea to end the evening with more disappointment than satisfaction.

Some visitors were often given invitations - I mean, my mom was fond of making food for her students (she was teaching for medical students). Those students (just like any hostel living guys) were always empty stomach when it came to good food. There was no limit to their eating. I remember my mom's bread bonda and ketchup for them. 'Kaash' I had some prof or faculty when I was at the Univ to serve me food like that!!!

One couple always visited us at 10pm. Their idea was to go for a long walk after their dinner and that made them land in our house for a post dinner talk. After a chat for an hour or so, it was our dad's turn to drive them home as it was too late to walk back.

Talking about visitors cannot end without talking about the patients who came for regular checkup. Some patients became so close that they came at 6:30pm and a queue of patients line up after them. The first come would patients wait for all the patients to go and then they start daily soap stories of their life to share with my mom. Some patients come running at 11pm saying, they ate something different for dinner and would like to consult her ASAP! My mom was like, 'how can you eat .... at this stage? You should take precautions.'

Are some kids not mischievous jumping all around and messing around with things in the showcase and things around??? Oh man. We had so many cute little things in our house which attracted every kid. Some kids were too rough in handling those toys kind of things. Many times, we had to do some magic kind of a thing (hhhuuuusssshhh, maaaya) and take the toy back from them and hide it. Then, there are some (of all ages) who want TV to be switched ON for their favourite tv soap. What the .....???? They are visiting our house and they don't want to talk to us and want to watch TV??? kuch bhi !!!

Lastly, some visited when we were all dressed and about to go out somewhere. They would knock the door, see us all dressed and ask, "oh ... were you heading out?". I was about to reply once, "no... I am not heading out. I got dressed like this to visit the rest room". ha ha ha. That was just a customary question from them. They next would come in, sit down, chat for while. One trick to tell good bye is to serve them tea and drink it faster than them :D. This is a hint for them to say 'bye'. 'Hint' if they sense it ;).
