Evergreens

It is a sunny Sunday morning here and with a cup of tea in hand, better would have been to have a local 50-page newspaper in hand and settling at one place for the next couple of hours. Instead, here I am, writing my blog with my tea.

There is always a feeling that some things in life remain evergreen. Even though generations change, technology advances, the concepts of those evergreen things remain the same. What are these 'evergreens' I am talking about?

The first example is newspaper - A real hard copy of newspaper in hand. Though Internet and television give exhaustive information, newspaper is a newspaper. I am sure, it will go on for ever.

Second example is going to a movie theatre - Again, technology, pay-per-view, video rentals, home theatres have come into picture, nothing can defeat the effects of a real theatre. How can one get the atmosphere of 'going with a friend, standing in the line to buy tickets, munching a snack around, getting into the theatre with a big popcorn pack in hand and those effects of sound and video'??? All these cannot be replaced;they cannot be replicated at your homes. All these for affordable money.

Third one - which is real tough to do, but effect is real :). To write a letter in hand. How is that effect?? - writing a letter to your friends/family in hand and mailing it. I feel there is that extra sense of touch in hand written mail compared to an email. Though mails are now termed as 'snail mail', it shouldn't bother someone who follow this concept even for today. I have a friend whose mom writes to him every week and he replies by the same mode - All these because, his mom is not used to computers and internet :).

I am blank at this point. Tea cup is empty. Any more concepts like these you know of?

Talking about news paper, there is a new kid at my door every day trying to sell San Jose Mercury News or San Francisco Chronicle. It has become a big nuisance in our community. I believe there is more in news paper than only news. I guess, the main incentive of people here to buy news paper is to look at ads.

Movies on small screen? What are you talking about? That's going to be obsolete when everybody would go for iPod videos.

Writing mail by hand is great, but the delivery time is a concern. How about writing by hand, scanning and emailing it as an attachment?
