Tour of Hoysala Kingdom

It was a memorable tour of visiting the historical places of Hoysala Kingdom. This tour was organized by Arun and Lakshmi. We started from Bangalore on Saturday morning at 6:30 am and reached Srilakshmi Temple at Doddagadavalli (near Belur) by noon. This temple is a unique one with Kali as one of the deities. Near the garbhagudi of Kali, we see 2 guards with skeleton structure as shown here. This resembles the statues in Egypt!

After checking in at the resort and finishing our lunch, we headed to Belur's Chennakeshava Temple.

Day-2 of our trip started with a visit to Coffee estate in Biccodi (Pictures here). With idli-vada breakfast, we continued our heritage tour by visiting Belavadi.

Hulikere tank is a very nice place to stop by near Halebidu. This tank is said to be the bathing tank for the then queen, Shanthala Devi.

It has been said that, Belur's Channakeshava temple has to be seen from inside and Halebidu's Hoysaleshwara temple from outside. This explains the design and beauty of each temple.

Malenad Rains...
This picture was shot through the glass of our vehicle. We were welcomed in Malenad by and rain. The weather was good on both the days of our tour. It was a perfect setup to sip coffee and enjoy the sound of rain!

This is the kind of trip I yearn for... Though I don't remember much of Belavadi, I just can't forget the elephants at the entrance. If you remember, another thing we dreaded about was the fact that Bakasura lived in one of those hills near Belavadi.

You were lucky to have overcast sky. Pictures are really good. A sunny day would have spoiled them.

oh.. yes.. weather was so good and it behaved so well. Best thing about the trip was the rainy-cloudy weather and the sunflower fields.

Nice pictures! Although I had plans to visit couple of Hoysala temples this time, it did not materialize.

Looks like ASI is taking good care at Belavadi, and Gaddavalli :)

Returning back to India

This blog will go for a long discussion within me. If this is Chapter 1, there will be many more chapters to come till I make a decision. Very often, I get this question - "Should I go back?" If so, when? Sometimes I feel, I should. Other times, I don't see the need. This change of answers inside me is just swinging like a pendulum. The end result is so much to take and give that it is a total change of life for someone who has lived outside India for nearly 5 years. Hasn't India changed in the past 5 years?
